A Siren's Song: Sailing Around Antiparos Island, Greece

Antiparos, a tiny gem nestled in the Cyclades Archipelago, is a sailor’s paradise. Antiparos offers a sailing experience that’s as diverse as its landscape. Port of Antiparos

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This spacious bay can get bustling with catamarans, especially considering the shallow water 2-4m. Finding a berth with a 2-meter draft could be a challenge. I opted for anchoring in 2.5m of water with 15m of chain. The bottom held well, and the bay provided decent protection from northerly winds.

Psaraliki Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage offers convenient access to Antiparos with good sandy holding. However, it lacks significant protection from swell, making it a less than ideal choice for sensitive vessels. The open exposure is a draw for kite and wind surfers, as the beach across the channel is a popular spot for these activities. This leads to a busy channel during the day with water sport enthusiasts taking advantage of the wind.

Apantima Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We explored this area in our dinghy and found a rocky bottom, not ideal for anchoring. The quayside is occupied by a local fishing boat, leaving limited space for others. You might squeeze in during exceptionally calm weather, but proceed with caution. Instead, we anchored further south and left our dinghy there while visiting the famous Antiparos Cave.

Soros Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This bay is absolutely breathtaking! We anchored in 6m of sand and found excellent protection from southerly winds. We initially anchored further north in Antiparos but moved here for better shelter – definitely the right call!

Sostis Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This spot offers excellent anchor hold in sand, providing good shelter from the elements on the east coast of Antiparos, just before the port.

Ubini Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a magical spot with fascinating geology and a charming little beach. However, the bay is narrow, accommodating a maximum of two boats. The lack of any wind protection makes anchoring a risky proposition, as breezes from any direction could quickly become a problem. The bottom consists of sand and seagrass.

Epitafios Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This spot is incredibly scenic, boasting a large cave and a smaller arch perfect for swimming through. We anchored here during the day, and while it could work for overnight stays in calm weather, good holding on the sand is key.

Despotiko Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: The islands themselves are decent, but access for hiking is limited due to the prevalence of farmland. While the archaeological site is present, the extensive restoration left me wanting more authenticity. The anchor hold is good, but be mindful of patches of dead seaweed that could snag your anchor during a wind shift.

Livadia Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
The sandy beach is a nice perk. We dropped anchor in less than 5m of sand and had good holding. Given the limited sheltered anchorages on the north side of Antiparos, this spot is worth considering.

Kavoura Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage offers a stunning natural setting and decent protection from the prevailing winds. However, accessing the bay bottom is somewhat challenging due to shallow water and rocky patches near the beach. The anchor holds well in the 3-4m sandy bottom, though careful navigation is required.

NE Anchorage

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a fantastic spot to stop for a swim. It’s very shallow with a sandy bottom and amazingly clear water. Be aware that it’s a popular spot for day boats and beachgoers arriving by land from Antiparos.
