Lesvos Anchorages Overview

Paralia Aspropotamos

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This charming anchorage feels like stepping back in time. It’s located on the south side, about 150m from the bathers, opposite the To Kamini tavern. The beach exudes a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, a place where time seems to move at a slower pace.

Paralia Tokmakia

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage offers good security thanks to its expansive sandy area and shallow water depth (3-5m). It’s a peaceful and pleasant spot, perfect for swimming. While well-sheltered from southwest to northwest winds, it can become quite rolly and uncomfortable with a northeast wind, which is common in the area.

Be mindful of the shallows, especially towards the north, where the bottom rises quickly to less than a meter. Avoid getting too close to the shore in this section.

Paralia Palios

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage is a good choice, with ample sandy bottom for excellent holding in 3-4m of water. While we didn’t go ashore, the area seemed peaceful with only a few small fishing boats coming and going.

NE Anchorage

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This secluded spot is a truly wild and charming location, with a tiny chapel perched on a rock adding to its unique character. The sandy bottom offers even depths ranging from 2-5m.

Molyvos Harbour

Harbour / Quay
This is what sailors experienced: This quaint town quay offers excellent protection, even in strong northwest winds. It’s a welcoming spot, with no fees required and free access to water.

Congas Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: The water here is clear, with patches of weed and sand visible. The sand becomes more prevalent in front of the old olive oil mill, as you move away from the port. The sand offers excellent holding, while the weed provides no grip at all and is quite slippery. A word of caution: this anchorage is not protected from southerly winds. When the southerly wind picked up, we experienced a rough chop in the anchorage.

Paralia Petra

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
The sandy bottom here is of excellent quality, with great holding. We moored in 5.5m of water with 28m of chain. While the forecast was for very moderate southerly winds, we actually experienced winds from all directions, but none exceeding 10 knots. The water remained remarkably calm throughout our stay.

Paralia Kampos

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We anchored in 5m of water off the fishing port, finding good holding. While the anchorage was generally calm, we experienced some swell at night.

Gavatha Port

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
Approach the dock from the starboard side, keeping a safe distance from the breakwater. You can moor as shown in the photo, with an estimated depth of approximately 3.5m inside the dock.

Andromachi Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This wild, secluded bay offers a tranquil escape. The sandy bottom provides good holding in 3-4m of water.

Sigri Bay

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This charming anchorage, nestled amidst farms and a few houses, offers excellent protection from northerly winds. While the depths range from 1-3m, you’ll find several small sandy spots amidst a generally weedy bottom. Anchors dig in well when set properly, holding firm even in 35 knot gusts. A short dinghy ride or an easy walk along the road will take you to the nearby port, where there’s plenty of space for tying up.

Sigri Port

Port

This is what sailors experienced:
Unfortunately, the main basin seems to have been neglected, as dredging hasn’t been done. This limits it to yachts with a draft of 1.4m or less (indicated in red on the chart). To add insult to injury, northerly winds churn up quite a bit of chop in the port – a bit of a design flaw! With strong Meltemi, it becomes rather unpleasant. The only saving grace is the availability of water and electricity (though pricey), accessible with a Lesbos card. We decided to move on to the anchorage on the other side of Sigri.

Paralia Sigri

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage offers excellent protection, allowing us to anchor fairly close to the shore in the northeast quadrant. Out of the five boats present, no one had to reset their anchor.

Skala Passatempo

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is a winner, especially with a southerly wind. It’s also a fantastic spot for wingfoiling!

Limena Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This peaceful anchorage offers a secluded retreat along a beautiful deserted beach. The bottom is generally good, with alternating patches of muddy sand and posidonia. However, it becomes rocky near the shore, with large volcanic pebbles.

Limena South Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This stunning, remote cove is a hidden gem, perfect for an overnight stay when the forecast calls for light winds, primarily from the west, south, or east. We dropped anchor in 3m of mixed mud and sand, using 25m of chain, and found excellent holding. I highly recommend this spot, but only when the winds are favorable!

Palaiókastro Anchorage

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage is a true gem, resembling a dramatic amphitheater of cliffs with crystal-clear blue water reminiscent of the southern seas. The fine sandy bottom provides excellent holding in 5m of water. It’s a perfect spot for a refreshing dip in calm weather and, surprisingly, offers good shelter from north to northeast winds.

Telegrafos Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is a perfect haven in northerly winds. We dropped anchor on sand at 5 meters, finding excellent holding even in gusts exceeding 25 knots. It’s a serene and secluded spot, perfect for a peaceful escape.

Lesvos SW Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a stunning location with perfect sandy bottom on both sides of the bay, offering excellent protection from the Meltemi (north to west winds). It’s a secluded paradise with breathtaking scenery and crystal-clear water, making it an ideal escape.

Lesvos N.Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: While the club buoys unfortunately limit access to this anchorage, it’s still a viable option further west, where you can find good holding on sand in about 7 meters. We anchored about 200 meters southeast of the main area, about 300 meters from the beach. The holding was excellent, and even with a 20-knot Meltemi, the waves were manageable for a catamaran. Just be aware of the gusty conditions further west.

Paralia Skala Eresou South

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a fantastic bay with a soft sandy bottom throughout. We found a great spot in just 3m of water, about 200m from the shore. There was no swell and the anchor held well. The beach is easily accessible by dinghy, with no obstacles to worry about.

Skala Eresou South Bay

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This cove provides good shelter from winds with an easterly component. It offers sandy bottom in 3-4m of water. It’s a deserted and accessible beach with clear water.

Paralia Chrousos

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This large bay boasts one of Lesbos’ most beautiful sandy beaches. The eastern section is nudist, while the western side features a beverage caravan, though it was only open once during our week-long stay. The beach is mostly secluded, with the bay usually being quite empty. We anchored in the eastern section in 2.1m of sand, using 30m of chain. We experienced Meltemi with peak gusts of 45 knots from the northeast.

Paralia Tavari

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
Buoys are strung across the beach, about 100 meters from shore, to create a safe swimming area. Be cautious when approaching, as the depth drops to 3m at 200m. The bottom is beautiful sand that provides excellent holding.

Apothikes Bay

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage offers good protection from the Meltemi. We anchored in the north cove, in 7m of depth, using 50m of chain. The bottom is primarily mud.

Skala Kallonis

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We found excellent holding in 5m of water, with the anchor setting immediately. The anchorage offers good protection from northerly winds, and we experienced no waves.

Paralia Agios Fokas

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We anchored in 10m of water, but be aware that the chain jerks quite a bit when retrieving due to the rocky bottom. The anchorage provides good protection from northerly and westerly winds. However, I wouldn’t recommend staying here if there’s a significant northeast wind.

Fara Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a lovely spot for a swim, with sandy patches in 4-6m of water perfect for dropping anchor. There’s a canteen nearby, but it’s a peaceful location compared to the busier Tarti Beach. Be aware that it’s open to southerly winds.

Tarti Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: The eastern side of the bay is primarily weedy, with no sandy patches. It took two attempts to find good holding in 10m of water. With 70m of chain, we were quite close to the float barriers. A southerly wind of up to 15 knots is blowing into the bay.

Paralia Ligonari

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We tried this anchorage when Tsilia was full. It’s smaller and less scenic than Tsilia, but perfectly adequate. We found several large sandy patches for anchoring, making it easy to find a good spot.

Paralia Tsilia

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We found this anchorage to be very safe, even with northerly winds of 15-27 knots. We anchored in 9m of water, using 45m of chain. We were able to easily explore the beach, chapel, and ruins with our dinghy.
