Skiathos Anchorages Overview

Skiathos Quay

Marina
This is what sailors experienced: I snagged two adjoining berths on the main dock, just north of the small corner. It’s worth noting that space is limited, even out of season. The ferries were a breeze – safe and efficient. I moored 1.5 meters from the quay, but be mindful of rental boats zipping around. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the Master of the Port, so I couldn’t get any official guidance.

Belvedere Skiathos Old Port

Port
This is what sailors experienced: This marina was bustling and noisy, with music thumping from the bars until 3 AM. Unfortunately, we struggled to get the water and electricity to work; apparently, this station has a history of issues. The wake from the passing ferries can be pretty strong. On the plus side, it offers good protection.

Skiathos Bay (Opt.1)

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We dropped anchor stern-to the cliffs, enjoying excellent holding and crystal-clear water. It was incredibly calm and peaceful. Highly recommend the Exsantas restaurant on the beach – delicious seafood and the friendly owner is a local.

Skiathos Bay (Opt.2)

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We found good holding on a sandy-muddy bottom in less than 10 meters of water. There were numerous patches of posidonia, so be mindful when anchoring. Stay in front of the yellow buoys for the best positioning. If you want to cross the bay, you can leave your dinghy on the small channel of yellow buoys in the eastern hollow. Tie it to a large tree trunk on the rocks and the back end to the buoys.

Skiathos Bay (Opt.3)

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage is a gem – close enough to the city to be convenient, but far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet. We found excellent sandy bottom in 3 to 5 meters of water, and there was no noise from the road. The nearly vertical cliff along the coastline provides excellent protection from the wind, making it an ideal spot to spend the night before heading to the city anchorage or the harbour the next day.

Tzaneria Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage offers great protection from the meltemi and westerlies. The bottom is sand with patches of weed, and we found good holding in some spots even under strong winds. There’s no swell, except for a tolerable swell during northeast winds. The depth ranges from 3 to 8 meters.

Tzaneria Southern Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay is stunning, but there’s a significant hazard to be aware of: a large chain lies on the bottom. Take extra care when anchoring to avoid hooking it.

Tsougkriaki Island

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:

This beautiful bay is definitely worth a stop. It’s stunning, but be aware that the bottom is mostly grass, with just a few sandy patches to drop your anchor. Take a walk around the old olive press and up to the church – the views of the surrounding bays are breathtaking. We had a fantastic sunset and a peaceful night. It’s a truly special place.

Tsougkrias Island Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This tiny island, is a real gem! We anchored in the small, indented bay on the north side in 6-7 meters of water. It was a perfect lunchtime stop, with very calm weather. There’s a fantastic little beach ashore, and we had total privacy. Just be aware that the small dock is used by ferries and water taxis , so keep a good distance.

Paralia Tsougkria

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: The bay whispered promises of tranquility, and it delivered. While the grassy bottom required a bit of searching for the perfect sandy spot, the reward was immense. The ancient olive press and the church perched above offer breathtaking panoramas. We basked in the golden hues of a magnificent sunset and enjoyed a peaceful night under a star-filled sky.

Tsougkria Eastern Anchorage

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: Found a lovely spot to anchor in 4-10 meters, with a mix of sand, thin seagrass, and a few small rocks. The bottom slopes gently, so it’s easy to find a good depth. We tucked into the south corner for protection from the southwest swell. The beach is stunning and totally deserted, just us and the seagulls – pure bliss!

Paralia Koutsouri

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This place is a winner! It might just be our new favorite spot on Skiathos. Yeah, there’s some boat traffic during the day – you know, the whole “island life” thing – but honestly, the quiet mornings and evenings make it all worthwhile. Plus, there are some amazing secluded spots just a dinghy ride away.
