This is what sailors experienced:
We found a great spot stern-to the quay near the lighthouse with just a whisper of wind. The local taxi was €45 for a 1.5 hour trip, but convenient. The supermarket inside the harbour was better stocked than the one on the street above. For fresh provisions, you’ll find a bakery, butcher, and fishmonger just a short walk up the hill. We were surprised when the port authority lady came by at 10 pm on Monday to collect just €5 for one night! They even provide free water and electricity! This marina offers good value for the price.
This is what sailors experienced:
We found a good spot to anchor at 3.5m. Just a heads-up: the depth drops off quickly in the northwest corner of the bay. Hotel Mouria offers a jetty for mooring and a lovely terrace, but the food there was underwhelming. The good news is, you can easily reach the sunken city by dinghy. We were very impressed with the protection from wind and swell in this location.
This is what sailors experienced:
This spot is worth a visit for a unique snorkeling experience. Foundations of an old building and remains of giant amphoras can be seen just beneath the surface, about 1.5m deep. These are said to date back to the 12th century BC. Enjoy the snorkeling, but please be respectful of these 3,000-year-old remains.
This is what sailors experienced:
Just south of the sunken city, we anchored in 17m with 50m of chain. Access to the site is easy, either by swimming, walking across the beach, or by dinghy. There are three buoys available near the sunken city for those arriving by dinghy.
This is what sailors experienced:
We anchored in this lovely bay in 8m with excellent holding. The water has a unique feature: the top 5 cm is colder and less salty than the rest, making for a funny swimming experience – you emerge with a less sticky body.
Epidavros is a region on the Peloponnese peninsula, sailing around this area offers a variety of options for both experienced and novice sailors. The main hub for sailing in the area is the port of Epidavros, which is home to the well-equipped marina of Epidavros. This modern facility offers a full range of services including water, electricity, and even a boat repair shop for those unexpected mishaps. For those seeking a more rustic experience, the charming harbour of Ermioni provides a more traditional atmosphere with a handful of tavernas and cafes along the waterfront.
Beyond the bustling ports, the Saronic Gulf offers a plethora of secluded anchorages and pristine beaches. The sheltered bay of Tolo is a favorite among families, offering crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. For those seeking a bit more adventure, the rugged coastline near Leonidio boasts a series of hidden coves accessible only by boat. Imagine, you and your crew, the only souls on an idyllic beach, the only sound the gentle lapping of waves against the shore.
Epidavros itself is a treasure trove of history and culture. The world-renowned Epidavros theater, one of the best-preserved ancient theaters in Greece, is a must-see for any visitor. Its remarkable acoustics are said to have been designed by the legendary architect Polykleitos, and a performance here will transport you back to the golden age of Athenian theater. For those interested in the healing arts, the Sanctuary of Asklepios, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a glimpse into the ancient world's approach to medicine.
