Poros Island Anchorages Overview

Poros Southern Quay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a good spot for stern-to anchoring, but make sure you have plenty of chain out! We dropped anchor almost at the red buoys. The shoreline varies, with some areas having a beach and others being rocky.

Kanali Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage was a winner! We found great holding in the sand, and it was easy to spot and avoid the posidonia. We can definitely agree with everyone else – the Kanali beach bar and restaurant was fantastic. A real highlight of our stay!

Askeli Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage was a gem! It offered great shelter from the ferries and a peaceful escape from the marina. The sandy bottom with some grass provided good holding. We easily dinghied across the bay to the city, finding a sheltered spot to beach our dinghy. A perfect spot for a quiet and relaxing stay.

Monastery Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We arrived with a gusty NW wind of about 25 knots and found perfect protection at the western edge of this bay, thanks to its fixed shorelines. The clear water, sandy bottom with seagrass, and excellent holding made this a very comfortable anchorage.

Poros SE Anchorage

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a nice spot to anchor, but avoid it when the wind is from the South, Southwest, or Southeast. It’s deep, so drop anchor at 20 meters, release 50-60 meters of chain, and put lines ashore (about 5-7 meters deep).

Poros NE Anchorage

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This was a good anchorage, despite the challenge of getting lines ashore. The bottom was about 12 meters deep, and we had a fairly quiet night.

Vagionia Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage was fantastic! The bottom was sandy with some seagrass, providing excellent holding in 6.5 meters of water. We used 40 meters of chain for extra security. The water was crystal clear and turquoise, and we discovered two little hidden beaches – a real treat!

Shoebill Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage was a real beauty! The water was crystal clear, and we anchored in 4-5 meters of sand. It’s a great spot, but be mindful of the conditions as it’s only a good anchorage in the right weather.

Agioi Anargyri Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: Very close to poros and methana but very quiet with a beach exposed to the north so dirty and the traditional chapel. Watch out for the submerged rocks on the chapel side. Nice stop

Kapsali Bay / Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This was our absolute favorite anchorage in the area! It was calm and offered great holding. While the water wasn’t crystal clear, it was still lovely for a swim, and the peaceful atmosphere made it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

3 Small Bays

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We had a very relaxing night here. The light north wind hardly made a ripple, and we were lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of the water. The water was okay for swimming, but we found it much clearer outside the bay of Poros.

Galatas Anchorage

Marina / Anchor

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage offers a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Poros. We loved the peace and quiet. It’s definitely best to anchor far away – we used 60m of chain to be extra safe. A tip: You can purchase a water and electricity card at Babis tavern for €10.
