Prepare to be charmed, dear sailors, for Sifnos is a Cycladic gem that will steal your heart. From its dramatic cliffs to its sapphire waters, this island offers an enchanting sailing adventure. Imagine, if you will, Poseidon himself, the Greek god of the sea, choosing Sifnos as his personal playground. His mischievous grin would be evident in the playful winds that whisk you across turquoise waters, his strength felt in the rugged coastlines, and his artistry seen in the sun-drenched villages that cling to the hillsides. This is Sifnos – a place where myths come to life, and your sailing dreams become reality.

Sifnos Port

Port

This is what sailors experienced:
This harbour is a great find! We had no issues with our 2.2m draft, as the harbour easily boasts a depth of 3 meters. Plenty of room to maneuver and feel secure.

Gialoúdia Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This tiny bay is a true hidden gem! The crystal clear water shimmers in a kaleidoscope of colors, and the white pebble beach is perfect for a swim. A few friendly goats add to the charm, perched on the rocky slopes. The sandy bottom held our anchor perfectly, and while it’s only big enough for 3 boats, it makes for a truly intimate and peaceful anchorage. A little slice of paradise.

Cheronissos Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a beautiful bay, but the narrow entrance requires a bit of finesse to tie up to the rocks. It’s quite deep, around 14 meters, so be sure to let out plenty of chain. While the anchor held, it wasn’t the most secure. I’d recommend using even more chain than usual for a comfortable stay.

Paralia Seralia

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This is a fantastic spot to anchor! We found a perfect spot parallel to the town and tied lines ashore. The steps leading up the hill to the town of Kastro are a bit of a workout, but totally worth it for the breathtaking views across to Antiparos and Paros.  The water is unbelievably clear, and it’s a perfect place to cool off after a day exploring.

Sifnos Lighthouse Marina

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a cute little bay that offers some protection from the northwest winds, but be aware that gusts can still sneak in. It’s a bit snug, really only fitting a couple of boats, and the right side of the beach is taken up by local buoys. We anchored in the center, about 20 meters from the first buoys, and let out 50 meters of chain in 10 meters of water. The anchor held pretty well, so it’s a decent spot if you’re looking for a quiet escape.

Apokofto Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a delightful little bay, offering easy access to the monastery via a rocky path. We left our dinghy on a hook there, which made exploring the area a breeze. There are two tavernas ashore, perfect for a leisurely lunch or dinner, and you can easily walk to Faros (10 minutes) or Platys Gialos from the bay. It’s a perfect spot for a peaceful stay.

Platis Gialos

Marina
This is what sailors experienced: This is a fantastic spot for a quick stop! The south pier can accommodate a decent number of yachts, probably around 15 depending on size. The locals are friendly, although you’ll need to rely on your neighbors for a hand with mooring as there’s no official dockmaster. We paid €27 for a day’s mooring, which includes a €15 credit for water and electricity. It’s a great spot but can get a bit uncomfortable with northerly winds.

SE Anchorage

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a truly magical spot! We enjoyed a peaceful night anchored in the center of the bay, in 7 meters of water. The anchor held perfectly, and the water is unbelievably clear. The bay offers protection from all winds except north and northwest, making it a great option for a calm stay. It’s a little slice of paradise.

Kitriani Island

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a cute little spot for a quick stop, perfect for a coffee or a lunch break in calm weather. The holding is decent, but you’ll want to stay on board as there’s not much to do ashore. You’ll see plenty of other small anchorages around the island, but they all seem to offer a similar “just for a quick stop” vibe.

Paralia Fikiada

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We found a great spot in the northwest corner of the bay, tucked between the entrance and the chapel. With a light south-westerly wind, we used both our anchor and shore lines to secure the boat. The bay is wonderful, not overly crowded, and the water is beautiful. It’s a lovely place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Vathi Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a truly lovely spot. I can’t speak to its protection from strong winds as I was there in calm weather, but the beauty and laid-back atmosphere are undeniable. It’s small, with just one shop, but they rent all kinds of water sports equipment for a fun day on the water.
