Planitis Bay (opt. 1)

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay is a real gem! Despite gusty conditions exceeding 37 knots, the mud and clay bottom held firm, providing excellent protection for our boat. With plenty of space for seven boats, it felt like a private lake. The wind was a bit unpredictable, switching between 8-15 knots and then suddenly gusting to 20, 25, even 30+ knots before dying down again. Thankfully, the gusts were too short-lived to generate any substantial waves, making for a peaceful and enjoyable stay.

Planitis Bay (opt. 2)

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a truly stunning bay, offering a remarkable sense of shelter and tranquility. We arrived with a strong northerly wind (15-20 knots) and a 1-meter swell, but upon entering the bay, it felt like we’d landed in a lake – the protection was incredible. There was plenty of room to maneuver, and the anchorage was remarkably peaceful. We opted for two lines to shore and extra chain, but the excellent protection and spaciousness meant that a single anchor with enough chain would have been sufficient. It’s worth noting that the wind direction can change within the bay, so keeping a safe distance from shore is advised.

Kira Panagia Monastery Marina

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay is truly superb, offering breathtaking views, especially from the monastery perched high above! Just a heads-up: the monastery is closed from 2 pm to 6 pm, not 3 pm to 6 pm, contrary to some comments. So, plan your visit accordingly!

Kira Panagia Western Bay(Opt.-1)

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is a great spot! We found good holding in the sand and were able to secure our boat by hanging the stern towards the rocks for extra security.

Kira Panagia Western Bay(Opt.-2)

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay is a great choice for an overnight stay! You can anchor in the middle on 7 meters, with plenty of room to swing freely. Alternatively, you can use a bow anchor and a stern line to the rocks for extra security. The water is crystal clear, making it a beautiful spot to spend the night.

Petros Beach (Opt-1)

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is truly a slice of paradise! It’s incredibly well-sheltered and we found a great sandy bottom at 7 meters behind the small island. We had the whole place to ourselves in late May. It’s important to note that this is a Zone A anchorage, so you need to purchase a ticket for your boat and each crew member on the park website. While the map indicates that anchoring and swimming are permitted, it is not possible to access the beach or walk on land.

Petros Beach (Opt-2)

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay is a stunning find, especially after a crossing from the north in the Chalcidiki region. While the Sporades tend to be a bit more crowded with yachts, we managed to find a spot to anchor with a little maneuvering. The NW wind created swell outside the bay, but it was calm inside. This bay is a must-see for snorkeling enthusiasts – the seabed is absolutely incredible!

Kyra Panagia's Coves & Anchorages: Where Anchors Find Their Rest

Kyra Panagia, while lacking the bustling marinas of bigger islands, offers a charming alternative. The main port, a small but lively affair, provides basic supplies and a welcoming atmosphere. However, the real magic lies in the hidden coves and secluded anchorages. Imagine dropping anchor amidst the shimmering waters of a hidden bay, surrounded by towering cliffs that whisper tales of ancient gods. You’ll find that the only company you’ll have are the playful dolphins and the occasional passing seagull.
