Sailing the Aegean:
A Bounty of Beauty Awaits in Kalymnos Greece

Ahoy, fellow seafarers! Prepare to be charmed by the captivating beauty of Kalymnos, an island in the Dodecanese Islands that’s as enchanting as a siren’s song. This Aegean gem, steeped in Greek mythology and famed for its sponge diving heritage, promises an unforgettable sailing adventure. With its crystalline waters, rugged coastline, and vibrant port towns, Kalymnos will weave its magic around your heart, leaving you with memories as sparkling as its seas.

Kalymnos Anchorages Overview

Kalymnos Marina

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This harbour offers a pleasant stay, though be prepared for some choppy waters when ferries arrive. While the movement is manageable, it’s worth noting. On the eastern side, you’ll find a convenient gas supplier connected to a ship, making replenishing your fuel a breeze.

Industrial Zone Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: With a generous 30m chain in just over 5m of water, you’ll enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. However, be aware of wakes from ferries and other vessels coming in and out of Kalymnos. While these disturbances are temporary, you might awaken to the sight (and sound) of the industrial gas and oil facilities nearby.

Vlychadia Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is an excellent spot, especially with the addition of four brand-new buoys that are in top condition and free to use. We experienced gusty winds over 25 knots and the buoys held strong, offering a real sense of security and peace of mind.

Nisida Nera Island

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
Small island with private harbour and colorful church.

Kalymnos SW Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: While not completely shielded from northwest winds or swell, this bay is a great spot for a quick stop for maintenance or lunch. We anchored for an hour without any problems. The sand bottom offers good holding, even in moderate winds. The bay itself is quite lovely, particularly in calmer conditions.

Paralia Kantouni

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is a cool spot to spend the day, with great bars and restaurants right nearby. The Kantouni Beach pool bar has a lovely free pool and super friendly staff. While not completely sheltered, it offers decent protection, making it a perfect choice for a day visit.

Telendos Anchorage

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a beautiful anchorage with depths ranging from 2.5-6m. While picturesque with its mountains and small village, it does have a lot of seagrass, which can make finding a good anchoring spot a bit tricky. You’ll also want to be aware of ferry traffic between the islands.
