Kos Island Marina

This is what sailors experienced: This marina is a bustling hub of activity, especially on weekends when charter companies bring in a flurry of boats. However, if you’re seeking a more peaceful experience, Monday through Friday offers a welcome respite from the weekend crowds. With all the services you need conveniently at hand, it’s a perfect base for exploring the surrounding waters.

Anchoring Outside Kos Marina

This is what sailors experienced: We’ve dropped anchor here since the marina was packed. The sand bottom provides good holding, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it a welcome alternative.

Paralia Dimitra

This is what sailors experienced: We’re anchored in 4.5m of sand, with a generous 40m of chain out to handle the unexpected winds. They’re much stronger than forecast. Thankfully, we’re holding well, but the wind is shifting a lot due to the mountains and the buildings, causing some swinging.

Paralia Thermes

This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is a dream in calm weather. With hardly a whisper of wind, it’s a haven of tranquility. The sandy bottom stretches out at 7m, and the water is so clear you can see right down to the seabed. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the Aegean.

Port De Kardamena

This is what sailors experienced:
This harbour is a true haven during the Meltemi, offering perfect shelter from the strong winds. Getting a spot can be tricky, as it’s quite popular, but if you’re lucky enough to snag one, you’ll be rewarded with a peaceful stay. We were able to ride out the hot Meltemi comfortably, enjoying views of the stunning palm-lined avenue and hardly feeling the wind. With all the amenities you could need at reasonable prices.

Lagada Beach

This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage holds well even during the Meltemi, with a sandy bottom at 5-7m. While there’s a bit of swell and the occasional annoying jet ski, it’s still a decent option overall.

Camel Beach Opt.-1

This is what sailors experienced: This cove boasts a perfect sandy bottom, 3-4m deep. If you have a shallow draft, you can venture a little further in and explore the secluded beauty. The anchor holds exceptionally well here, digging in firmly, so you won’t need an excessive amount of chain. It’s a great spot for a peaceful overnight stay.

Camel Beach Opt.-2

This is what sailors experienced: This small bay is a hidden gem, with a mostly deserted beach and a good sandy anchoring ground at 3m. While it’s open to the west wind, it hardly gets any waves. Just be mindful of a few scattered rocks. It’s a peaceful spot to escape the crowds and enjoy the tranquility of the Aegean.

Agios Stefanos Beach

This is what sailors experienced: We anchored in 4.5m, just off the hotel, with the NW wind mostly coming from the west. We had some occasional boat traffic pulling people around. Thankfully, the wind died down to below 15 knots, even dropping to just 2 knots at times. However, we rolled all night due to the swell coming from the south. We re-anchored further inshore at 3.5m, extending 30m of chain, marked by the blue dot in the picture. This seemed to offer a more stable position.

Paralia Kefalos

This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage offers excellent holding with a beautiful sandy bottom and crystal-clear water. It’s a great spot for a peaceful stay with a gentle breeze, but be prepared for a bit of rocking if the wind subsides.

Kamari Pier

This is what sailors experienced: While the marina itself is often crowded, you can find some respite by mooring on either the north or south side of the pier if necessary. I personally prefer the north side as the wall is smooth, whereas the south side is quite rough. However, there are only two berths on the north side that are far enough away from the pier (about 20m) with electric bollards at a suitable distance. You’ll also find a few electrical terminals, but water access is limited and located far away on the quay.

Akrotiri Bay

This is what sailors experienced: This bay is a real charmer! The sandy bottom makes for great snorkeling, there’s a small beach to enjoy, and the surrounding scenery is lovely – even an old crane for those who appreciate industrial history.

Akrotiri South Bay

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage offers excellent holding in 7m of sand with a few scattered patches of seagrass. There are some rocks closer to shore, so it’s best to stay further out. It’s a tranquil spot that provides good protection from NW winds.

Vriokastro South Bay

This is what sailors experienced: This small cove is a real gem, with crystal-clear waters surrounded by dramatic high cliffs. The sandy bottom provides good holding, making it a perfect spot for a secluded and picturesque anchorage.

Dino Beach

This is what sailors experienced: Perfect anchor spot if you do not have wind from north. Very blue sea and very light sand. Perfect for a stop, especially for swimming and snorkeling, or even an overnight stay.

Vrachonisida Port

This is what sailors experienced: We’ve squeezed into this little port, which requires a bit of careful maneuvering, but it’s safe enough. The water depth is around 2.3m, and the bottom is covered in dead grass, but the anchor seems to be holding well. It’s not the most exciting spot, but it provides good protection.

Kos Harbour

This is what sailors experienced: This marina is a real gem, privately managed, so you can expect top-notch service. They’ve got water and electricity readily available, making it a convenient and comfortable spot to stay.
