Day 1: Lefkada to Meganisi

(11 Nm)

We set sail from Lefkada Island, leaving behind the mythical island where cunning Odysseus supposedly hanged himself after his long journey (though some whispers suggest he cleverly faked his demise). Our first stop is Meganisi Island Greece, a paradise favored by the sea nymphs. Dive into crystal-clear waters, for who knows, you might encounter playful nereids or even the mischievous god Hermes, known for enjoying a good beachside bargain.
Skipper’s Tip:
Consider anchoring in the beautiful Spilia Bay on the north side for a calm sleep or take a detour (5 NM) to Spartochori, a charming harbour village with colorful houses.

Day 2: Meganisi to Kalamos

(11 Nm)

Today, we journey to Kalamos, a peaceful island said to be the stomping ground of the Telchines, cunning metalworking giants who crafted Poseidon’s fearsome trident. Explore hidden coves and secluded beaches, keeping an ear out for the rhythmic hammering of these mythical blacksmiths echoing from the depths.

Day 3: Kalamos to Kastos

(4 Nm)

A short sail brings us to Kastos, a tranquil island where, legend says, the beautiful nymph Calypso once held Odysseus captive for seven long years. Beguiling turquoise waters and pristine beaches might make you understand the hero’s hesitation to leave. But fear not, unlike Calypso, we won’t be forcing you to stay!
Anchorage Alert:
Kastos offers limited options. Vathy Bay provides some shelter, but for a more scenic anchorage, head south 4 NM to Kalamos’ Antipaxos Island and nestle into Agios Nikolaos Bay.

Day 4: Kastos to Ithaca (Vathi)

(17 Nm)

Prepare for a heroic welcome as we reach Ithaca Greece, Odysseus’s long-lost homeland. Explore the charming capital, Vathi, a labyrinthine town with colorful houses cascading down the hillside. Be sure to climb the hill to the imposing castle, a possible contender for the legendary “Ithaca of the Crags.”

Day 5: Ithaca to Kefalonia

(15 Nm)

Today, we sail to Kefalonia Greece, the largest island on our journey. Legend tells that Kefalonia was once part of the same landmass as Ithaca until a mighty earthquake, perhaps a fit of temper by Poseidon, cleaved the two islands apart. Explore the dramatic coastline with hidden coves and, for the adventurous, venture inland to discover the enchanting Melissani Lake Cave.

Day 6: Kefalonia to Sivota (Lefkas)

(13 Nm)

Our next stop is Sivota in Lefkada Island , a cluster of seven small islands offering a serene escape. Imagine these as the playgrounds of the playful Sirens, luring sailors with their enchanting voices. Thankfully, with the knowledge of a savvy skipper and the absence of a dangerous reef, we can safely luxuriate in the beauty of these isles.
Anchorage Alert:
Many options beckon in Sivota! For a lively atmosphere, drop anchor in the main harbour. For seclusion, consider the beautiful Mouri Beach on the southwestern tip of Lefkada.

Day 7: Sivota to Marina Lefkas

(10 Nm)
Our final leg takes us back to Lefkada, a chance to reflect on our mythical voyage. As you disembark, remember, your own odyssey may be ending, but Greece, with its timeless beauty and rich mythology, will forever hold a place in your heart, beckoning you to return for another adventure.

A 14-Day Odyssey Through the Ionian Islands:
Where Myth and Magic Collide
(with some Nautical Nuggets for Skippers)

Prepare to unfurl your sails, intrepid sailors, for we embark on a fortnight-long voyage through the enchanting Ionian Islands! Here, the turquoise waters shimmer like Poseidon’s palace pool, and the islands themselves are sprinkled with tales of gods, heroes, and mythical creatures. So, grab your sunscreen, channel your inner Odysseus (minus the Cyclops encounter, hopefully), and let’s set sail!

Day 1: Lefkas to Meganisi

(22 Nm)

Set sail from the bustling Alimos Marina, leaving the Athenian cityscape behind as you chart a course for Meganisi Island Greece, a charming island dotted with fragrant lemon groves and blessed with crystal-clear waters. Explore the main town, a picturesque labyrinth of neoclassical mansions, quaint cafes, and bustling restaurants. Don’t forget to sample the local lemonade – it’s divine!

Day 2: Meganisi to Kalamos

(11 Nm)
Kalamos, a skinny sliver of an island, is where you can channel your inner Odysseus once more. Legend has it that Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, stopped here during his search for his missing dad. Explore the island’s hidden coves and secluded beaches, or visit the tiny port of Kalamos for a taste of local life.

Day 3: Kalamos to Kastos

(4 Nm)
A short hop takes us to Kastos, a haven for tranquility. Hike to the island’s highest point, Mount Agi Paraskevi, for panoramic views, or visit the quaint village of Kastos and soak up the charm.

Day 4: Kastos to Ithaca (Vathi)

(17 Nm)

Prepare for a dose of mythology! Ithaca, Odysseus’ kingdom, awaits. Explore the labyrinthine alleyways of Vathi, the capital, and visit the legendary Cave of the Nymphs, where Odysseus is said to have hidden his treasures.
Skipper’s Tip:
Anchor in the well-protected port of Vathi, or head to the secluded Frikes bay for a more intimate experience.

Day 5: Ithaca to Antisamos (Kefalonia)

(13 Nm)

Today, we sail to Kefalonia, the largest Ionian island. But first, a stop at the idyllic island of Antisamos. This tiny gem is rumored to be the place where Odysseus first encountered Penelope after his long absence (though Penelope might have preferred a less dramatic entrance than emerging from the sea).

Day 6: Kefalonia

Kefalonia offers a bounty of delights. Explore the lively capital, Argostoli, with its colorful buildings lining the waterfront. Hike through Mount Ainos National Park, or visit the Myrtos Beach, a crescent of white sand and turquoise water that will leave you speechless.

Day 7: Kefalonia to Agios Nikolaos (Zakynthos)

(17 Nm)

Get ready to set foot on Zakynthos Greece, also known as Zante. Legend has it that Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry, dropped his wine cup here, creating the island. Explore the shipwreck cove of Navagio Beach, a photographer’s paradise, or visit the Venetian Castle for stunning island views.

Day 8 & 9: Zante

(28 Nm)

Spend two days indulging in Zante’s magic. Go spelunking in the Keri Caves, or explore the bustling resort town of Laganas. For the adventurous, head to Zakynthos National Marine Park and spot the endangered loggerhead sea turtles.
Skipper’s Tip:
Consider anchoring overnight in the sheltered bay of Agios Dionysios for a peaceful escape.

Day 10: Zante to Argostoli (Kefalonia)

(25 Nm)

We retrace our steps back to Kefalonia, with Argostoli as our destination. Enjoy fresh seafood at the harbour tavernas, or explore the Faneromeni Monastery, perched on a hilltop overlooking the town.

Day 11 & 12: Kefalonia

(30 Nm)

Take your pick of adventures in Kefalonia. Kayak through the underground Melissani Lake, visit the Assos village with its Venetian charm, or go wine tasting in the Robola vineyards.
Skipper’s Tip:
For a unique experience, anchor overnight in the dramatic bay of Fiskardo, a charming village with colorful houses.

Day 13: Kefalonia to Vasiliki (Lefkada)

(11 Nm)

Our journey winds down as we sail back to Lefkada. Lefkada’s west coast beckons with its dramatic cliffs and hidden coves. Vasiliki, a haven for windsurfers, offers a vibrant atmosphere and stunning beaches like Porto Katsiki, a crescent of white sand backed by towering cliffs. Be warned, this beach can get crowded, especially during peak season, so arrive early to snag a spot.
Skipper’s Tip:
For a secluded anchorage near Vasiliki, consider the small cove of Agiofili with its crystal-clear waters, perfect for a refreshing dip.

Day 14: Vasiliki to Lefkada Marina

(21 Nm)

Our final sail takes us to Lefkada Marina, marking the end of our unforgettable adventure. Enjoy a farewell dinner at one of the many waterfront restaurants, reminiscing about the myths, islands, and turquoise waters you’ve encountered. Who knows, maybe you’ll even weave your own epic tale to tell back home!

Beyond the Itinerary: Anchoring Gems

While our itinerary focuses on charming ports, here are some bonus anchorages for the adventurous sailor:
