Piglet Bear Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay is a true beauty, but she’s a popular one! Space is limited, accommodating around 4 boats comfortably with lines ashore. We dropped anchor for a delightful lunch and swim, but even for a short stay, securing lines was essential due to the swirling winds. If you plan to spend the night, arrive early to claim your slice of paradise!

Agios Gerasimos Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This cove offers a peaceful haven, particularly well-protected from those pesky westerly winds. Anchoring stern-to in 10m of water, we enjoyed a tranquil night alongside two other boats.

Kakoghilos Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: We found absolute tranquility in this secluded anchorage, enjoying a peaceful night with not a single other boat in sight. The darkness was truly magnificent, unveiling a breathtaking tapestry of stars above. Thankfully, the wasps mentioned in other reviews were absent during our October visit. Holding seemed secure, though conditions were calm, so be sure to check the forecast before dropping anchor.

North East Anchorage

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We anchored on the south side, securing a line ashore for added peace of mind. The calm waters, free from any swell, created a perfect setting for relaxation. A few curious goats ventured down to the beach, adding a touch of charm to the scene. Beneath the surface, the seabed revealed a fascinating ecosystem teeming with barnacles, razor clams, mollusks, and starfish – a delight for snorkelers and nature enthusiasts alike.

Alaties North Anchorage

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This spot is truly breathtaking, but anchoring requires a bit of finesse due to the scattered small rocks. While anchoring is straightforward, the left side near the beach can get crowded with smaller boats and jet skis, so keep an eye out. A word of caution: upon entering, be mindful of submerged rocks lurking on the left side, extending further right than indicated on Navionics. Navigate with care and enjoy the beauty of this idyllic location!

Alaties Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This place is pure magic! And here’s a little secret: you can actually anchor a bit further out than most do. Then, simply hop in your dinghy and explore the hidden wonders of this secluded gem at your own pace. A little extra effort for a truly exclusive experience!

Jerusalem Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This picturesque bay boasts a beautiful sandy beach, though you’ll likely share the shore with a lively crowd of beachgoers. The good news? We were the only boat anchored here! Finding a sandy patch to drop anchor requires a bit of searching, so take your time and choose wisely. This spot offers excellent protection from northerly winds, making it a perfect retreat on blustery days.

Assos NE Bay

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We shared this anchorage with another catamaran, dropping anchor in 10m of sand in front of the first beach after Asos. While the bay bustles with swimmers during the day, the evenings are peaceful.

Assos Port

Port

This is what sailors experienced:
This little harbour is a true gem, boasting stunning scenery and a rewarding hike up to the castle, where panoramic views await. Sadly, our plans to moor on the harbour wall were thwarted by a rather inconsiderate sailboat hogging 3-4 spaces with a questionable parking job. A gentle reminder to fellow sailors: a little courtesy goes a long way in ensuring everyone enjoys these beautiful destinations!

Myrtos Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This idyllic spot served as the perfect lunch stop before venturing to Asos. We anchored easily in 8m of sand, enjoying excellent holding. However, a large jellyfish greeted us upon arrival, so keep your eyes peeled! The calm conditions ensured minimal swell, allowing us to fully appreciate the beauty of the beach and its crystal-clear water.

Agiya Kyriaki

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This delightful bay offers ample space and a good holding bottom, making it a pleasant anchorage. A charming small port and seasonal restaurant add to its allure. Just be mindful of the wind and swell, as northerly conditions can quickly turn this tranquil haven into a bumpy ride.

Amidi Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: Finding suitable sand for anchoring proved challenging at this particular spot, so we ventured a bit further east, dropping anchor in 6 meters of water in front of the mesmerizing Agirides caves. This location is truly magical, offering a sense of seclusion and wonder – but only in the right conditions.

Atheras Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is undoubtedly stunning, offering a picturesque setting for a relaxing stay. We spent a peaceful night here, even though the bay remained surprisingly busy for mid-October. However, a touch of sadness accompanied our snorkeling adventures as we encountered an unfortunate amount of garbage and debris scattered on the seafloor.

Agia Elani

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage is a visual feast, boasting incredibly clear water that invites exploration. While the bottom is predominantly rocky with patches of seaweed and sand, the rocks are easily visible, allowing for careful anchor placement. We secured our position in a sandy patch at 10m, enjoying excellent holding. A bit of swell rolled in during the night, but it was nothing to worry about.

Tortuga Bay

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage has become a trusted favorite, offering peaceful nights and a sense of tranquility. We’ve anchored here on three separate occasions, always finding secure holding in 5m of sand. And let’s not forget the fantastic restaurant onshore, serving up delicious meals that complete the perfect experience.

Kounopetra Beach

Marina / Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay is a true gem, offering not only a picturesque setting but also the delightful Meltemi taverna with its breathtaking views and exceptional cuisine

Vardiani Monastry

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: Offering unparalleled beauty and tranquility. However, it’s important to note that this idyllic anchorage is only protected from south/southwest or west/southwest winds. For mooring, take a look at the posted photos – they paint a clear picture of the ideal anchor placement. With a bit of planning and careful anchoring, you’ll be able to fully enjoy the magic of this special place.

Megas Lakkos Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This beautiful anchorage, adorned with a unique red sand beach, captured our hearts, leading us to visit twice during the sailing season. Both times we found secure holding in 6 meters of water. However, our second visit coincided with stormy weather and significant swell, prompting us to seek shelter in Argostoli.

Xi Anchorage

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This spot is pure joy for anchoring enthusiasts! No need for overthinking or complicated maneuvers – simply drop your anchor and voilà, you’re set! The holding is immediate and secure, with ample space to spread out and enjoy the crystal-clear water.

Lixouri Harbour

Harbour
This is what sailors experienced: This port offers the convenience of mooring along the quay, a preferable option considering the unreliable holding at the bottom. However, be prepared for some expenses, as overnight stays now cost €20 for a 13-meter vessel. Electricity comes at a premium, with a daily rate of €40 or €20 for overnight use. Water is available for €2. While some chop can occur at night during windy conditions, the charming town with its array of shops and restaurants makes it a worthwhile stop.

Mini Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage provides a peaceful haven, especially when the north wind blows. We found ourselves completely alone, enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. The anchor held firm, offering a secure and relaxing stay. No need to venture all the way to the northernmost part of the bay – you’ll find suitable anchoring spots closer to the entrance as well.

Argostoli Marina

Marina

This is what sailors experienced:
We sought refuge in this port for two nights, securing our vessel alongside a low concrete dock amidst 20 knots of north-northwesterly wind. The mooring ropes, though rusty, proved reliable. We found a depth of 3.3 meters at the lowest point. Be aware that swell enters the harbour, creating a backwash that necessitates ample fender protection for your boat. While we encountered no pests or rodents, the presence of litter was regrettable.

Paliostafida Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We anchored here for a peaceful onboard meal, enjoying the calm conditions. However, the occasional ferry wake and passing boats created a slight roll, so be prepared for a gentle rocking motion. While the water was clear and inviting, the surrounding area consisted mainly of a hotel beach, offering little in the way of exploration. We anchored easily in 4m of sand, making for a convenient and relaxing stop.

White Rocks Bay

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We made a delightful lunch stop at this picturesque location en route to Spartia. Anchoring in 10m provided good holding, though the lack of protection exposed us to some swell. However, it was perfectly manageable for a brief stopover. The highlight was undoubtedly the swim to the beach – a truly stunning experience with crystal-clear water and breathtaking scenery.

Ammes Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This excellent anchorage boasts a prime location near the airport, allowing you to conveniently pick up arriving passengers with your tender, bypassing the need to venture into Argostoli. However, be sure to keep a close eye on the weather forecast, as northerly winds can expose this spot, making it less than ideal for shelter.

Agia Pelagia Marina

Marina

This is what sailors experienced:
It appears this harbour has transitioned to private ownership. Upon arrival, two friendly individuals assisted with mooring and requested our boat papers and insurance. The overnight fee for our 38ft vessel was €20, including water but no electricity. Restaurants are a 15-minute walk away. We enjoyed a delightful meal at Milos on our first evening, but were disappointed by the simple fare and poor service at Koutoupas Paradise on the second night.

Liakas Anchorage

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage provides excellent protection from the northwest, making it a haven during blustery conditions. We found secure holding in 5m of sand, enjoying a peaceful and comfortable stay. A perfect spot to escape the wind and unwind amidst tranquil surroundings.

Paralia Pesada

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We enjoyed a peaceful overnight stay at this stunning location, taking advantage of the calm conditions. Anchoring in 4m of sand, we were the sole occupants of the bay. The nearby taverna hosted a lively Greek night with a buffet and music, offering a fun experience – though the music did extend into the later hours. However, it eventually quieted down, allowing for a restful night. Just be aware of the adjacent ferry ramp, as the ferry remains docked overnight.

Trapezaki Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This pleasant anchorage provides excellent protection from northerly winds, ensuring a peaceful stay. The small port allows for easy disembarkation, and a well-stocked mini-market is conveniently located within a 15-minute walk. The friendly staff even offered to drive us back to the port after our shopping trip – a gesture of kindness that enhanced our experience.

Lefka Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This spot offers a lovely setting for a peaceful lunch break, assuming the swell cooperates. The anchorage area, as indicated by the blue zone on Navily, presents a mix of sand and larger rocks, so choose your anchoring spot with care. Be aware that swell can be a frequent visitor here, so check the forecast before settling in.

Katelios Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This expansive anchorage provides ample space and easy anchoring in fine weather. Facing east to south, the sandy bottom with a few rocky patches offers good holding in 3-5m of water. Keep an eye out for some surface rocks to avoid. The view of Zante is simply breathtaking, and the clear turquoise waters invite exploration. The charming village of Kato Katelios, easily accessible by dinghy from the beach, boasts a delightful selection of waterfront restaurants. A truly pleasant stopover when the weather cooperates.

Spithi Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We anchored securely in 5m with good holding. Despite feeling slightly exposed on the coastline, the calm weather forecast ensured a restful night’s sleep. The faint sound of music from nearby bars drifted across the water, creating a pleasant ambiance rather than a disturbance.
A note of caution: charted depths closer to shore seem to be deeper than the actual depths, so proceed with care.

Porto Skala Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This adorable little bay offers a fantastic snorkeling experience. Numerous small tunnels near the shoreline invite exploration, and a fascinating halocline with noticeably colder water suggests the presence of an underwater spring. A perfect spot to discover the hidden wonders beneath the surface.

Skalas Poros

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
We found good holding in 7m of sand, though patches of algae require some caution when anchoring. Be prepared for a persistent, albeit gentle, swell.
A word of warning: wasps seem to be frequent visitors here, so take necessary precautions.

Poros Kefalonia Marina

Marina

This is what sailors experienced:
We found good holding in 7m of sand, though patches of algae require some caution when anchoring. Be prepared for a persistent, albeit gentle, swell. And a word of warning: wasps seem to be frequent visitors here, so take necessary precautions.

Lazarus Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This location boasts undeniable beauty,…but be aware of the potential for uncomfortable swell. The bay sees a fair share of self-drive rental boats coming and going throughout the day, but they generally clear out by 6 pm, leaving the anchorage peaceful. We found good holding on sand in 3m of water and enjoyed a pleasant overnight stay.

Koutsoupia Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This spot has the potential to be a lovely anchorage, offering clear water and good holding in 10-15m. However, our experience was marred by an abundance of particularly aggressive wasps, resulting in several stings. While the setting is pleasant, the wasp situation makes it less than ideal for an overnight stay.

Antisamos Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
Excellent holding in 10m of water. While a few wasps made their presence known, the abundance of turtles and fish more than compensated. A truly delightful spot!
