While tenders may pass over, it’s advisable to avoid attempting to navigate through this area. Adjust your swing circle accordingly to ensure safe anchorage. Despite this cautionary note, the anchorage offers a delightful setting with a scenic jogging track, providing the perfect backdrop for outdoor activities amidst the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Alafonisi Island

This is what sailors experienced: We initially attempted to anchor in Ormos Atherinos West, but with two boats already occupying the space, we opted for an impromptu lunch stop and snorkeling session here instead. Despite Garmin’s cautionary markings of this area as hashed red, we found no issues with depth, offering ample space to anchor comfortably between Alafonisi and Meganisi without the risk of grounding. Snorkeling revealed a stunning underwater landscape, with various formations to explore and schools of fish darting around. While perfect for a day’s stay and underwater adventures, it’s worth noting that the anchorage may lack sufficient protection for an overnight stay.

This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage offers a delightful retreat, but it’s wise to exercise caution with the lines on land and potential visitors of the rodent variety. Some crafty mice are known to frequent the shoreline, tempted by seaside snacks and occasionally attempting to board boats uninvited. To maintain peace of mind, we opted to release our moorings, allowing for a more serene experience away from potential furry intruders.

This is what sailors experienced: While this anchorage may be snug, it’s undoubtedly worth the effort! We found it to be a fantastic spot, though we did experience some dragging after a few hours. It’s crucial to ensure you have ample chain and a reliable holding system in place to avoid any unexpected movements. With proper preparation, this anchorage promises a rewarding and memorable experience.

Western Balou Bay

his anchorage is a haven in south and east winds, offering peaceful shelter from the elements. However, it’s a different story when faced with a northwesterly wind. Our decision to seek refuge here from an anticipated storm with forecasted 35-40 knot southeast winds turned into a nerve-wracking experience when we were unexpectedly hit by 35 knot northwesterly winds instead.

Plous Odysseas Marina

This is what sailors experienced: Our attempts to reach the port on VHF channel 72 proved fruitless despite repeated efforts. Observing port employees casually engaged with their cell phones outside the office only added to our frustration. It wasn’t until we resorted to contacting them via phone that we finally saw some action from the otherwise lethargic group. They eventually directed us to a berth, but not without questioning why we hadn’t made contact through channel 72—an oversight that seemed lost on them until prompted by our call.

Karnagio Wooden Quay

This is what sailors experienced: Situated at a restaurant/bar alongside a picturesque beach, they’ve constructed a wooden quay capable of accommodating around 20 boats on lazylines. Reserving in advance is practically a must, and the owners are more than willing to assist with docking. While there’s no charge for mooring, diners are expected to patronize the restaurant—which is reasonable, considering the quality of the food.

This is what sailors experienced: We opted to anchor with lines ashore, securing a prime spot in this serene locale. The setting proved to be fantastic, offering tranquility and excellent snorkeling opportunities. Venturing into Vathi fishing village, we were charmed by its picturesque beauty—a worthwhile excursion indeed.

This is what sailors experienced:
The anchorage offered excellent holding, surrounded by protection on all sides except the north.  Despite the road running along the shore, traffic was minimal, adding to the serenity of the experience. The peaceful morning was gently interrupted only by the quiet arrival of a couple of small fishing boats, serving as a gentle reminder of the harmonious coexistence between nature and humanity in this idyllic haven.
