This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage is a true slice of paradise, especially in calm conditions. However, a word of caution for fellow sailors: be mindful of anchoring chains, as some boats here tend to let out an excessive amount (we’re talking 60m or more!). We unfortunately crossed chains with a neighboring charter boat that had nearly 70m out in the middle of the bay. To avoid any potential issues, we recommend checking with your neighbors upon arrival and ensuring everyone has sufficient space to swing safely.
This is what sailors experienced:
We found ourselves drawn to a peaceful spot in 12m of water, directly across from a charming little chapel. It was mid-May, so only a handful of other boats shared the bay, amplifying the sense of tranquility.
This is what sailors experienced:
This spacious bay unfolds with a trio of inviting inlets. One stretches northward, while the other two embrace the eastern sun. Each inlet offers patches of welcoming sand for anchoring, with depths varying between 5 & 11m, providing options for vessels of different drafts.
Don’t expect sprawling marinas with all the bells and whistles on Dokos – remember, even Poseidon preferred a more natural approach! The island offers a handful of charming and sheltered bays where you can drop anchor or moor at a jetty. The most popular is the harbour of Skindos, a picturesque bay on the eastern side, providing good protection from the Meltemi winds. You’ll also find fishing boats moored here, their nets overflowing with the day’s catch, and maybe even a friendly local willing to share a tale or two.
For those who truly want to escape the ordinary, Dokos offers countless secluded anchorages and pristine beaches just begging to be discovered. Drop anchor in a hidden cove, the only sound the gentle lapping of waves against your hull. Swim ashore to beaches kissed by turquoise waters, feeling the soft, white sand between your toes. Just be sure to leave nothing but footprints behind!
Dokos may be uninhabited now, but it whispers with stories of the past. Explore the ruins of an ancient settlement, remnants of a time when life on this tiny island thrived. Hike through the rugged, untouched landscape, carpeted with wildflowers in the spring. And as the sun dips below the horizon, casting the sea in hues of gold and crimson, remember the legend - Poseidon himself once sailed these very waters, and for a few stolen hours, you can too.
