This anchorage is a true haven from the Meltemi, offering excellent protection and secure holding in sand. The lovely beach adds to the charm, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the scenery.

This bay provides excellent shelter from northerly winds and boasts good holding in the sand, even with consistent north winds. While it attracts some day-sail charter boats for a couple of hours at a time, they don’t cause any real disruption. The water is crystal clear.

This anchorage offers good holding in mainly sand, particularly on the left side of the watersports lane. While there are some buoys, they are primarily for the use of the watersport centers during the day. It’s definitely not a spot for those seeking tranquility.

This anchorage proved to be a reliable haven during a strong Meltemi (30 knots). We anchored with a hefty 60 meters of chain, feeling secure with the additional protection of a mooring on the small quay and another on the rocks on the western side of the beach. It was a welcome respite from the wind.

This anchorage offers a good escape from the Meltemi, providing better shelter than neighboring Yialos or Ornos Bays. Anchoring in 5-7 meters of firm sand outside the swimming buoys and a few moorings provides a peaceful retreat. Plus, it’s significantly less crowded than those other bays.

While this bay is heavily populated with mooring buoys, you can find a peaceful spot by anchoring further out in 7-8 meters of sandy bottom. The holding is good and the bay offers decent shelter from the Meltemi. There’s also a small dock for convenient dinghy landing.

While Ornos Bay is often crowded with tourist boats and their long chains, this small anchorage offers a peaceful alternative. Anchoring in 6 meters of light sandy bottom in front of the Buddha Bar Beach, provides a tranquil escape. Just be mindful of a large mother chain lying on the bottom between concrete blocks near the hotel beach – avoid getting too close!

This anchorage offers a beautiful view and convenient access to restaurants and shops. We anchored just outside the mooring balls in 14 meters of water, letting out 70 meters of chain on a sandy bottom, and held firm despite winds of over 30 knots. The tender can be left securely on the seawall on the east shore. A great spot for a relaxing stay.

This anchorage offers a beautiful view and convenient access to restaurants and shops. We anchored just outside the mooring balls in 14 meters of water, letting out 70 meters of chain on a sandy bottom, and held firm despite winds of over 30 knots. The tender can be left securely on the seawall on the east shore. A great spot for a relaxing stay.

This anchorage provides excellent protection from the Meltemi, although there’s a bit of a breeze coming from the northeast, it’s nothing compared to what you’d experience outside. We dropped anchor in 20 meters of water and secured the boat with two land lines for extra security. A great spot for weathering the storm!
Glyfadi Beach

This bay is the ultimate refuge when the Meltemi is blowing in Mykonos. Its size is perfect, as it’s small enough to keep the large and super yachts at bay, which is a major plus in my book. It’s close enough to Ornos for shopping, just a 10-minute dinghy ride (but you’ll need at least a 9.9hp outboard – a 30-minute walk is your alternative). I recommend heading to the northern rock side, west of the small beach, in the morning for the best position.
SW Anchorage

Anchoring in 4-5 meters of sand provides a secure spot. A nice beach awaits in front of the anchorage, and nearby rocks offer snorkeling opportunities. Plus, anchoring at the southern end of the bay keeps you well away from the undersea cables marked on charts in the northern section. It’s a great option for an overnight stay, and even better for a daytime visit, where you can anchor closer to shore for lunch or swimming.
