Xylokastro Anchorages Overview

Xylokastro Harbour

Harbour

This is what sailors experienced:
This marina has a strict draft limit of 1.5 meters, making it inaccessible to deeper-hulled vessels. We opted to anchor just outside the harbour entrance, which unfortunately proved to be quite a rolly spot. The seabed rises dramatically from 50 meters to a mere 8 meters within a very short distance, creating a constant rocking motion. On the plus side, the town is very welcoming to visiting boats, allowing you to completely disembark and explore without any hassle.

Xylokastro Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: The depths in this area are incredibly unpredictable, transitioning rapidly from 30 meters to just 5 meters. We found ourselves in a precarious situation, drifting towards the shore after an hour, with only 2.4 meters under our keel (initially 9 meters). We decided to raise anchor and leave, as did the only other boat in the vicinity. While this spot might be suitable for a quick lunch or swim, it’s not recommended for overnight stays. Even in calm conditions, the constant wash from boats traveling to and from the Corinth Canal will create significant rocking and make for an uncomfortable night.

Marina Mavra Litharia

Marina

This is what sailors experienced:
Anchored in the center of the outer harbour, in about 13 feet of water, using a heavy anchor to minimize swing. The seabed was a mix of sand and rock. It was a very still night and we slept soundly. There was minimal noise from the nearby roads.

Kiato Marina

Marina

This is what sailors experienced:
This was a great stopover during my recent trip! I was able to spend a few days in the small harbour, even though it’s technically off-limits to boaters. After a friendly chat with a policeman, he allowed me to stay until Sunday morning, which was my planned departure. The other pier is quite exposed to swell, making it less than ideal for anchoring.
