Fiskardo, perched like a jewel on the northern tip of Kefalonia, is a haven for those who yearn for the embrace of the open sea. Imagine yourself at the helm, the sun-kissed turquoise waters of the Ionian stretching before you, a playful breeze guiding your sails past rugged coastlines adorned with picturesque villages. Channel the spirit of Odysseus as you navigate hidden coves and secluded bays, each a testament to the island’s mythical allure. Kefalonia unfolds like a tapestry woven with diverse landscapes; dramatic cliffs plunge into crystal-clear waters, secret beaches beckon with soft sands, and verdant vineyards sprawl across rolling hills, interspersed with quaint fishing harbours where time seems to slow down. Sailing around this island is akin to stepping into a living postcard, each turn of the rudder revealing a new vista that steals your breath away. Whether you are a seasoned skipper with countless nautical miles under your belt or a novice sailor yearning for your first taste of adventure, Fiskardo promises an unforgettable odyssey upon the mesmerizing Ionian Sea.

This is what other Skippers experienced:
While Fiskardo’s beauty is undeniable, the harbour experience can leave something to be desired. The influx of boats and tourists during peak season can lead to crowded conditions, but the true disappointment lies with the questionable practices of some harbour personnel. Instances of favoritism and a disregard for proper procedures, such as reserving berths for personal acquaintances or those willing to offer additional payment, can leave a sour taste in the mouth.

Dropping anchor in the bay of Fiskardo is a quintessential experience, but it pays to be prepared and arrive early, especially during peak season. Securing your vessel with lines to the rocky shore (avoiding trees to steer clear of potential fines) is the way to go. Aim to arrive before the afternoon rush, as the bay can become quite crowded with boats of varying anchoring expertise. Choose a spot further north along the coast for a bit more breathing room and tranquility.

If you prefer a more tranquil experience, consider seeking refuge in the quieter anchorage just outside the no-sailing zone. Arriving in the late afternoon, as we did on July, allows you to secure a comfortable spot with ample swinging room using a generous length of chain. Even as other boats arrive and drop anchor nearby, there’s still a sense of space and serenity. This alternative anchorage offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful retreat away from the crowds, yet still within a convenient 5-minute dinghy ride to the heart of the village, where you can immerse yourself in the charm of Fiskardo at your own pace.

Good alternative to Fiskardo Harbour in high season. Many shore line options.

Fear not, for Fiskardo offers safe harbour in its charming marinas & ports. The main port of Fiskardo welcomes yachts and boats of all sizes, providing amenities like water, electricity, and fuel. Just a short sail away, you’ll find the quaint port of Assos, a picturesque village with a sheltered harbour perfect for smaller vessels. Remember, just like Odysseus resisted the Sirens’ call, resist the urge to overindulge in the delicious local cuisine and ouzo before setting sail again!
While Fiskardo itself is a captivating destination, the surrounding island of Kefalonia holds countless treasures waiting to be discovered.
Explore the captivating Drogarati Cave, with its impressive stalactites and stalagmites, or venture into the mystical Melissani Cave, where an underground lake shimmers with ethereal blue light. Hike up Mount Ainos, the highest peak on the island, and be rewarded with panoramic views of the Ionian Sea.
For history buffs, the ruins of the ancient city of Sami and the Venetian castle of Assos offer a glimpse into the island's rich past. And of course, no visit to Kefalonia is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, with its fresh seafood, succulent lamb dishes, and the ever-present, refreshing taste of Robola wine.
Embrace your inner explorer and seek out the hidden gems of Fiskardo's coastline.
Drop anchor in secluded coves like Foki Bay, where crystal-clear waters lap against pristine white pebbles, perfect for a refreshing swim. Emblisi beach, with its dramatic cliffs and turquoise waters, offers another idyllic spot to bask in the sun or enjoy a picnic on the shore.
For a taste of luxury, head to the cosmopolitan beach of Dafnoudi, where beach bars and water sports await. Remember, even Odysseus needed a break from his epic journey, so don't hesitate to relax and enjoy the beauty of these coastal havens.
