This is what sailors experienced: This bay was visually stunning, with clear water and a sandy bottom. However, the presence of seaweed made anchoring a bit tricky. We found ourselves having to anchor further out than ideal due to the two other boats already at anchor. It took several attempts to find a good hold, despite using a long chain (50m at 12m depth). While there wasn’t strong wind predicted, the seaweed did make for an unsettling anchor experience.

This is what sailors experienced: Despite being well sheltered from a NNW wind (blowing at 15 knots), the bay was open to the eastern swell, resulting in a somewhat restless night on the anchor.

This is what sailors experienced: This secluded bay offers ample depth all the way to the shore, making it a great spot for a unique anchoring technique. You can secure your boat by placing the bow anchor on a sandy patch opposite the side you wish to face. Then, simply reverse and tie up with two shore lines. This creates a secure and stable position, allowing you to enjoy the tranquility of this hidden gem.

This is what sailors experienced: We dropped anchor in 12-13 meters of water on a sandy bottom. The best diving spot is located to the left, towards the point.

Basilikó Southern Bay

This is what sailors experienced: We found a good hold on the first try in 6.5 meters of water, with a sandy bottom and some short seaweed. However, be warned: there are rocks near the north side of the bay that can easily snag your anchor. Look for skid marks on the seabed, a telltale sign of dragged anchors, and make sure your anchor is well set before you relax!

This is what sailors experienced: This bay initially looked promising from a distance, but unfortunately, the beach is now completely fenced off, making it impossible to walk across the island. The pebble beach itself is littered with debris, which is a shame. The anchorage is also disappointing, with a bottom composed mainly of stone and mud. While it’s possible to anchor, you’ll find much better conditions in the bays further south.

This is what sailors experienced: When the wind is predominantly from the east, you can anchor along this shoreline in 10-12 meters of water, approximately 50-70 meters from the shore. We found good holding with a 4:1 scope. It seems that this area is a popular choice for other boaters when Shipwreck Cove is full and the wind is easterly.

This is what sailors experienced: This bay is quite open to winds from the south, but offers crystal clear water and a beautiful view. The bottom is a mix of sand and rock with some posidonia. You’ll want to anchor on a flat spot in 10-13 meters of water, keeping the tops of the shore in view.

This is what sailors experienced: This is a fantastic wild anchorage with a good sand bottom for holding. There’s even a dedicated berth with hawsers ashore, making it a great option for those seeking a more secure spot.

NE Anchorage(Opt.-1)

This is what sailors experienced: We found a sheltered spot in the hollow to the east of the bay, which provided protection from the northerly wind and minimal swell. We anchored in 10 meters of water on a patch of sand surrounded by posidonia.

NE Anchorage(Opt.-2)

This is what sailors experienced: This is a pleasant anchorage, ideal for daytime use. However, space is limited, so we chose to use shore-based hawsers (fore and aft) for added security, making the anchor somewhat redundant. In hindsight, it would have been more efficient to set the anchor, align the boat with the cove, and then secure two stern hawsers on opposite sides of the cove. This would have provided a more stable and secure position.

This is what sailors experienced: This is a superb anchorage, best enjoyed with your boat positioned stern-to-shore. It’s perfect for a maximum of two boats and offers excellent protection from southerly and easterly winds. While there’s limited space, a slightly wider anchorage can be found in the neighboring bay.

This is what sailors experienced: This is a lovely anchorage, but it’s not as well protected from swell as it might seem. Even a moderate northeast wind (force 3-4) can generate swell that wraps around the eastern point. Despite this, the sandy bottom is fantastic, and we opted to spend the night in the sheltered cove below.
