Platis Gialos Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This spacious, rocky bay boasts a trio of charming sandy beaches, a welcoming taverna, and a handful of picturesque houses. We dropped anchor in 10 meters of water, just off the rocky shore, finding a mix of sand and seaweed. The beach area was bustling with activity, making the anchorage just off the shore the perfect spot for a peaceful escape.

Parasparia Bay

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This bay offers a fantastic sheltered haven, particularly for those seeking refuge from southerly winds. The depth contours on the chart may be slightly off, as it’s possible to almost reach the beach by boat. The sandy bottom provides excellent holding, making it a perfect spot to drop anchor.

Sikamia Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a truly gorgeous anchorage, offering excellent protection. Aim to anchor to the left of the charming church with the blue roof, focusing on finding a sandy bottom around 5 meters deep. With a 20-meter chain, you’ll be sure to stay comfortably within the sandy area. Avoid the large reef situated to the right of the church. Remember, wherever you see weed, there’s likely to be underlying rock. We enjoyed a peaceful night here with a gentle 6 knots of wind.

Megalo Livadi

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage offers a bit of a “wild west” feel, relying on the old mooring rods and hawsers left by previous boaters. While this method has proven reliable for many, always exercise caution and inspect the lines thoroughly before securing your vessel. As with most anchorages, be mindful of the potential for old chains and anchors at the bottom. For the tunnel mentioned, be sure to wear a life jacket and pack a good torch for safe passage.

Jaloudia Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage is truly magnificent. We enjoyed a peaceful night just 20 meters from shore with our catamaran, using a hawser to secure to a mooring rod. It was a perfect, silent night, only broken by the gentle sounds of fishermen raising their nets at 5 am.

Kalogeros Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage held like a champ, even in 20 to 25 knots of wind! We were anchored in 20 feet of water with a hefty 40 feet of chain. It’s a bit wild and exposed, but it definitely does the job when the wind kicks up.

Malliadiko Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This is a great spot to anchor, offering a quiet escape on a sandy bottom in front of a less-frequented beach. We found ourselves anchored in the middle, in 7 meters of water, but opted to rotate our boat between north and south orientations, despite the northerly wind. This helped us to ensure a comfortable ride throughout the night.

Koutalas Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage is undeniably unique, with its abandoned iron ore mines lending a fascinating air of history. While the spot has a certain charm, it’s important to note the potential hazards. One boat unfortunately learned the hard way about the unclean bottom, getting caught in chains. Be extremely cautious about the entry on the western side of the bay. The anchorage is well protected against northerly winds, but be aware of downdrafts that can persist until late evening. Also, be prepared for strong winds around noon, with gusts reaching 30 knots. A single night is perfectly fine, but it’s best to avoid extended stays here.

Vagia Beach

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage boasts excellent holding on sand, making it a reliable spot to drop anchor.

Kalo Ampeli

Anchorage
This is what sailors experienced: This anchorage proved to be a wild ride last night (August 6th)! While the bay is beautiful, it’s definitely known for its windy nature. We experienced 24 hours of gusty conditions, with a bit of swell making its way into the bay. Fortunately, things calmed down for a few hours in the evening, but the gusts returned with a vengeance, reaching over 60 knots at times. Thankfully, with all my anchor chain out, I held firm. We made a hasty departure at 6 am to avoid any further challenges.

Livadakia Beach

Anchorage

This is what sailors experienced:
This anchorage is a perfect haven for those seeking shelter from southwest and west winds. We discovered numerous small patches of sand near the stunning beach, providing excellent holding for our anchor. The gusts were manageable, not exceeding 10-12 knots, making for a peaceful night. We were delighted to find ourselves completely alone, as the harbour and the northern anchorage were packed.
